§ 2-372. Appointments to boards.

  • Whenever the city council is authorized by any provision of the Code of Ordinances to appoint the members of any board, authority or commission, such power of appointment shall be deemed to vest in the mayor with the confirmation of an affirmative vote of a majority of the council present and voting at any meeting. Every multiple of seven members of each board, authority, or commission shall include one appointee from each ward of the city. Any body consisting of less than seven members shall include not more than one appointee from any ward. Each member of any board, authority or commission must reside in said ward of the City of Jackson at the time the member is appointed, unless a specific local ordinance or state statute specifies otherwise. Each member of any board, authority or commission must continue to reside in the City of Jackson during the member's term of office on any board, authority or commission. If a member no longer resides in and/or is permanently domiciled outside the corporate limits of the City of Jackson at any given time during the appointed term on a board, authority, or commission, said appointment is terminated and deemed vacant. Such geographic distribution of appointments shall commence as the present terms of office expire and shall be accomplished in the following manner: For any multiple of seven members on any appointed body which does not have a representation of ward one, a resident of ward one shall be appointed to the first vacant position on such body. If any multiple of seven members does not contain a resident of ward two a resident of ward two shall be appointed commission, said appointment is terminated and deemed vacant. Such geographic distribution of appointments shall commence as the present terms of office expire and shall be accomplished in the following manner: For any multiple of seven members on any appointed body which does not have a representation of ward one, a resident of ward one shall be appointed to the first vacant position on such body. If any multiple of seven members does not contain a resident of ward two, a resident of ward two shall be appointed to the second vacant position, etc., until the proper geographic balance is obtained.
